I decided to get involved in politics over 10 years ago,
when, like many people, I was overwhelmed by the
continuing increases in taxes, red tape, and
governmental waste. I strongly believe that the
government should be there to SERVE the citizens. Over
the past 10 years I have strongly and very outspokenly
advocated that all governmental entities from the local
level to the national level must strive to be good
stewards of the citizens they represent. I believe that
it is “COMMON SENSE LEADERSHIP” that will reshape this
great nation and return America to the people. Looking
back over history, some of the greatest Presidents, like
George Washington and Ronald Reagan formed and reshaped
America using common sense. It doesn’t take a lawyer or
a doctor to recognize what needs to be done, and what
should be done.
I believe that it takes a citizen that has been through
the red tape, dealt with the government waste,
experienced working through the hard times, made
payrolls, managed businesses, and has been in the
trenches with the rest of America. I watch my employees
struggle because there is little work, my neighbors
struggle because they have lost their jobs and can’t
find another, I know people who are nearing the end of
their unemployment and have just about lost all hope of
finding a job and keeping their home. Knowing this and
seeing the government hand out billions of dollars in
bailouts and stimulus to large corporations, and other
large corporations continuing to send jobs overseas
really makes me question the intentions of our
government.
My job provides me the
opportunity to travel throughout many of the counties of
this district. I have noticed many commercial buildings
for rent or lease, many factories with gates padlocked
with closed and no trespassing signs, and still many
others with “going out of business” signs. I hear on
the news about more businesses closing, more people
losing their jobs. I often wondered what happened to
the people that worked there, where did they go, what
are they doing now? Then, in the residential areas, I
started noticing more and more “for sale” signs and
foreclosure signs, and realized that all the closed
factories and closing businesses represent thousands of
people in our area that are struggling to make ends
meet, struggling to put food on the table, struggling to
make their mortgage payments, and struggling to support
their families. Many of these families are teetering on
the edge of losing everything they have worked so hard
and so long to achieve. The policies that we have in
place are not working. We can’t spend our way
out of debt, and we can’t solve our problems by throwing
money at them and walking away. We need sound, long
term economic policies put in place that make sense, we
need less government regulation in business, we must
control government spending, and we must protect our
freedom that we hold so dear and have sacrificed so many
to achieve. In short, we need responsible common sense
leadership; we can’t afford to keep the status quo.
I believe that first and
foremost, we have to get Americans back to work. We
have to put common sense policies in place that
stimulate small businesses, and provide the capital they
need to survive, expand and be prosperous. We have to
focus on educating our work force, encouraging
productivity, increasing efficiency, and reducing
unemployment.
We have to stop the special
interest groups from “buying” what or who they want in
Washington so they get special favors and special
considerations.
We need to address health
care in America. However, it can’t be done correctly in
a few weeks. I don’t believe that the government should
require a citizen to pay for health insurance when they
can’t put food on the table, or make their mortgage
payment. There has to be other options and plans that
can be put in place so that all Americans have access to
necessary health care.
I am an advocate for the
Citizens of this great nation that we all call home. I
will be an outspoken, common sense representative for
YOU in Washington. This nation was formed, “of the
people, by the people, and for the people”, and I
believe it is time for the PEOPLE to be back in charge.
I hope I can count on YOUR
support, and YOUR vote, on election day, May 4, 2010.
